About Off The Grid Dance



Off the Grid Dance is dedicated to bringing dance to Lasqueti Island. In this beautiful, remote setting, dancers are invited to explore their creativity and to work on their art form. For those looking for inspiration, Artistic Director Denise Lieutaghi offers classes and workshops, as well as inviting guest teachers. Off the Grid Dance presents dance performances, music concerts, and hosts artists to partake in the love of dance.

About the Artistic Director

Denise is a dynamic performer, choreographer and a certified Bill Evan's teacher. Her teaching style reflects her vitality and love of dance, creativity and expression. She has performed extensively through Europe, danced/performed at Romp, Dancing On The Edge and Light On Your Feet in Victoria and Infringing in Nanaimo. Her work was showcased on WTN and in Korea during the Olympics. As well as being commissioned for Lynda Raino's Big Dance and the Performing Arts school in Victoria, Denise has also collaborated and performed with Cathy Lewis and Lynda Raino in Opera She Saw. She is the recipient of two BC Art's Council Grants.

Summer Workshops

DANCE INTENSIVE WITH BILL EVANS AND DON HALQUIST

JULY 21-JULY 27, 2019

LASQUETI ISLAND, B.C  CANADA

Come get away from it all to this beautiful setting at Off The Grid Dance Studio. Immerse yourself in Bill Evans Dance while deepening your appreciation and understanding of his work in this 5 day workshop.

Each day there will be one Bartenieff Fundamentals class, two Bill Evans  Dance Technique classes, one flow yoga class and a round table discussion on dance topics, with a dance presentation on Friday evening.



Lasqueti island is located in the Salish sea between Vancouver island and the mainland of British Columbia,Canada. 


Off The Grid Dance Studio is on 42 acres with fields, orchard, and forested bluffs with old growth trees surrounding a 5 acre lake.

All accommodations  are within 10 minutes walking distance from the studio.

 Workshop Teachers

Bill Evans is a performer, teacher, choreographer, lecturer, administrator, movement analyst, writer, adjudicator and dance advocate with a uniquely varied and comprehensive background of experiences and accomplishments. He is also the creator of the Evans Modern Dance Technique and director of the Evans Modern Dance Technique Teaching Certification Program. 

Don Halquist, PhD, is an extensive performer, educator, writer, researcher, choreographer and has been a member of the Bill Evans Dance company for 19 years.  Don has served on the faculty of the Bill Evans Summer Intensives for 17 years where he has developed a curriculum for teaching dance through the theory of multiple intelligences.

Denise Lieutaghi Is a performer, choreographer, teacher and is the Artistic Director of Off The Grid Dance. She is a Certified Teacher of the Evans Modern Dance Technique and a certified Yoga Teacher. In this workshop Denise will be teaching Yoga and facilitating the dance discussions.

Travel to Lasqueti

Travel to Lasqueti

Lasqueti Island is accessible by foot passenger ferry only. The ferry runs from French Creek Harbour on Vancouver Island to False Bay on Lasqueti Island. Pay parking for $5/day is available at the marina. The trip across takes 60 minutes.

Boarding Passes: On summer and holiday weekends, it is advisable to arrive at French Creek at least one hour before sailing to get a boarding pass at the Ferry Dock. Please note that you must be back on the dock at least 15 minutes before the scheduled sailing time for your boarding pass to be honoured. Pay for the ferry once you are on board and underway. When to Arrive

All dancers will need to arrive on Lasqueti on July 21st on the 2:30 ferry. Students will be picked up at the ferry and driven to their respective lodging.  There will be a greet and meet in the early evening followed by dinner.  All accommodations are within ten-minutes walking distance from the studio.

Meals and Accommodations

Accommodations include 6 nights of billeting and 6 nutritious breakfasts with your hosts, 6 dinners, 5 lunches and healthy snacks in between.

All meals are organic and/or local when available with vegetarian, gluten and dairy-free options:    

Costs include transportation to and from the ferry.

Lunch and dinners will be served at the main house with views of the Salish Sea and mountains. Wifi available.

Departure: After breakfast on Saturday July 27th dancers will be driven to meet the 11:00 ferry. They also have the option to go to Lasqueti’s local market and take the 4 pm ferry instead.
